Our Internet connection was down again last night - but I think they got it fixed this time...
Kurt went with Martin (one of our facilitators) and C to a "western type" supermarket/store called Citymart. He purchased some little hats - when outdoors babies must be in hats. They are also bundled up like it is winter. Kurt, Ava, and I went for a walk around Lake Hoen Kiem - the lake at the center of Hanoi. The lake is surrounded by a very nice park with all kinds of sculptures in the gardens. We walked across the "Bridge of the Rising Sun" The vendors on the streets are everywhere. I still find the vendors direct approach/haggling a little intimidating but Kurt is starting to get used to it. The store fronts are wide open - kind of like China Town in NYC. There are so many things to look at! Ava fell asleep while walking - she likes the baby Bjorn. She is a wonderful baby! She is so much smaller than the other children that are being adopted by the others in our group.
We are staying at the Hong Ngoc Hotel, 34 Hang Manh Street. It is jewel right in the middle of the old french quarter chaos. If you can't find what you are looking for, someone on the street knows someone who can get it. We learned that if you go three doors down you get a better exchange rate than at the hotel. We have had our laundry sent out twice - the lady across the street runs a laundry shop. We have been eating primarily at the hotel. The food is good, especially breakfast. Kurt has been much more adventurous about eating local foods than I have been.
We found out that we have our INS appointment on Monday and hope to get our passports back on Wednesday. Well... I should get back to Ava.
