This was a big transition week.Ava went back to day care after a week off and lots of time with family spoiling her. She started in a new room with new teachers. Fortunately she is moving with two other "waddlers"and joining three other kids who moved from the infant room to the waddler room in may. She had a birthday party with her infant friends before moving over to the next room.
She had her one year well visit on Wednesday and the doctor told us she is doing wonderfully. She is a little peanut and will probably be small by American standards the rest of her life. She is 17.6 pounds and 28.25 inches. Since we received her in January she has grown 5 inches and has gained 5.5 pounds. She is now also all caught up on shots and although she will receive the standard shots in the future, she does not need to receive extra shots or doctors visits in the future. We were also told to start feeding her milk instead of formula and continue working on cups instead of bottles - I think this step is going to be harder on mommy and daddy then Ava.
We received the Certificate of Citizenship paperwork back in the mail again. Although all paperwork was filled out correctly this time, they received it the day after the deadline and they want us to send them the extra money to make up the increased fee ($160.00). We have decided not to file for the name change on the COC at this time - the one she has with her Vietnamese name on it is valid and she will have her social security card, passport, NY birth certificate and 2 sets of adoption paperwork to prove who she is... If we ever need to change her name on her COC then we will do it at that time. This was a hard decision for me, someone who really likes to cross her "t's" and dot her "i's", but I am also frustrated with this whole process and just can't justify why it costs $380 to change a name on a document.
This weekend we are heading to Kurt's sister's. My job kicks into high gear next week, so for me summer is officially over - it certainly was a busy one.
